When you hear the word \u201csemiconductor\u201d, you probably think of computer chips, but they also support our society as materials for solar cells and photocatalysts. Semiconductors absorb light and produce electrons with high energy. The magnitude of energy is basically determined by the material, but it also changes depending on the size of the nanoparticles. Although semiconductors do not naturally emit light, they emit light very brightly at room temperature when they are made into nanoparticles and their surfaces are well passivated. The vivid color of quantum dots enabled &#8220;quantum dot TV&#8221;. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Dr. A. I. Ekimov, Dr. L. E. Brus and Dr. M. G. Bawendi in 2023 for their early development of quantum dots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"437\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/www-chem.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp\/apel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/photoluminescence.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-127\" style=\"width:259px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www-chem.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp\/apel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/photoluminescence.webp 437w, https:\/\/www-chem.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp\/apel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/photoluminescence-176x300.webp 176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 437px) 100vw, 437px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u53e4\u3044\u30bf\u30a4\u30d7\u306e\u91cf\u5b50\u30c9\u30c3\u30c8\u306f\u6bd2\u6027\u306e\u5f37\u3044\u30ab\u30c9\u30df\u30a6\u30e0\u3084\u30bb\u30ec\u30f3\u3092\u4f7f\u7528\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u793e\u4f1a\u306e\u3042\u3089\u3086\u308b\u5834\u9762\u3067\u4f7f\u7528\u53ef\u80fd\u306a\u74b0\u5883\u306b\u914d\u616e\u3057\u305f\u91cf\u5b50\u30c9\u30c3\u30c8\u958b\u767a\u306b\u5411\u3051\u3001\u6211\u3005\u306e\u30b0\u30eb\u30fc\u30d7\u306f\u300c\u786b\u5316\u9280\u30a4\u30f3\u30b8\u30a6\u30e0\u300d\u3068\u3044\u3046\u65b0\u305f\u306a\u6750\u6599\u958b\u767a\u3092\u884c\u3044\u3001\u52b9\u7387\u306e\u3088\u3044\u5408\u6210\u7d4c\u8def\u306e\u958b\u767a\u3084\u3001\u9bae\u3084\u304b\u306a\u767a\u5149\u306b\u6210\u529f\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002Conventional quantum dots use highly toxic cadmium and selenium. In order to develop environmentally friendly quantum dots that can be used in all aspects of society, our group has developed a new material based on \u201csilver indium sulfide\u201d.
